As if the festivities weren't enough, it was time to get up and hit the road again waaay too early the next morning...Before I knew it, we were in the car and headed to the BEACH!!! Sarah was constantly making fun of me for taking pictures of the sides of the road, but I excused myself for it, because we don't have trees like that in Florida...
And besides, you never know what you might happen to see on the side of the road...or in front of you...While we didn't see any animals (it was mid-morning), we did go through a cool tunnel, under a neat train bridge, and past a sign that made me laugh (because it didn't apply to me).
We stopped to have lunch at Camp 18, an old lumber camp that is named Camp 18 because it is 18 miles from the coast. Not really original, but it works. I was intrigued with all the old equipment and train cars that they had for everyone to look at...they also have some pretty nifty statues that I believe were carved with a chainsaw...Not 100% sure about that one, so don't quote me...
While impressed with all the carvings, JJ was definitely not interested in going home with any of them...in fact, he was downright put out that we wanted to take his picture with some of them...
He did, however, finally find a small piece of comfort with someone his own size...I was beginning to wonder if we would be able to leave without causing waves...
We ate our lunch, and wandered around a little bit more, before finally getting back in the car...Then we reached the beach...more specifically, Seaside, OR., the official end of the Lewis & Clark trail...cool, huh? Knowing where I was standing was that historically important...well, it was really neat...we took a little walk on the beach and watched some people flying kites...it was cold (hey, I'm from FL, give me a break...), but well worth it...
And then, when it was time to leave and head to Cannon Beach, I simply couldn't resist getting the matching sign, showing we were leaving the Tsunami Hazard Zone...(whew...I was soooo worried!)
On to Cannon Beach!!!
(to be continued...)
WELCOME BACK!! :) I wondered where you had gone too! How are you?
ReplyDeleteI think youshould write a book girl, I love your writing! Great pictures, had me cracking up with the tsunami sign! haha
