Monday Music Muse...

In this edition, I will highlight a few of my favorite songs from a few child prodigies - Hayley Westenra (no longer a child), Charice and Jackie Evancho...Both have amazing voices and while Charice is older than Jackie and they are in two completely different genres, I think they both deserve some recognition.

For someone who is ten years old, this is the most amazing thing in the world. She has such a mature voice and I look for great things to come from her in the future. With David Foster as her manager, she will undoubtably end up with some awards and more than a few platinum and gold records in her future. I happened upon Jackie's PBS special last night, and I was so impressed that a little ten year old girl could deliver such a mature performance. I would be hard pressed to decided which song impressed me the most. I am going to include the link to her song from the PBS special for "Nessun Dorma"...

Charice was 15 when she was featured on David Foster's first PBS special "Hit Man David Foster & Friends." She performed the iconic songs from "The Bodyguard" that were originally sung by Whitney Houston. Before she went on David's show, however, she went on Oprah's tv show and Oprah begged David to hear her sing...ever since then, Charice's music has skyrocketed...I love her voice and even though she's only 4'11", she's got a voice that is bigger than if she were 10' tall!

"Listen" was originally sung by Beyonce, but I think it is a MUCH better fit sung by Charice...let me know if you agree....

The next song from Charice is an original that was made for the Fox tv show Glee...I can't help it, I love the music...that's why I watch...the song is beautiful and I hope you enjoy it...

Now, for my favorite songstress...Hayley Westenra...so young, but such a pure and beautiful voice. She was compared for a long time to Charlotte Church, but thankfully, Hayley hasn't allowed herself to get sidetracked like Charlotte. I think we can expect to hear great things from Hayley for a long, long time. She did a brief stint with Celtic Woman, which didn't hurt her visibility in the music world...I would have to say that my favorite song by her is a traditional Maori song "Pokarekare Ana." Following a close second, "Never Say Goodbye" and "Who Painted the Moon Black."

I hope you've enjoyed this edition of Monday Music Muse...I hope I've introduced you to some new artists you can enjoy. Happy listening...
